Gloucester's new dog park — in the talking and then planning stages for more than a year — will take on a far more tangible look this morning when co-founders Mary Lou Maraganis and Judi Masciarelli lead a groundbreaking ceremony beginning at 8 on the site in Stage Fort Park.
The project, which gained City Council approval earlier this year, is pegged for a part of Stage Fort that's adjacent to the basketball courts.
Today's groundbreaking is also part of a series of events focusing o the dog park this week.
On Thursday, the Cape Ann Theater Collaborative's presentation of "Sylvia," which opened last weekend and continues this Thursday through Sunday at Gloucester Stage Company's Gorton's Theatre, will also serve as a fund-raiser for the new facility. "Sylvia" revolves around a dog and the family dynamics that occur when a man brings the pet home.
Visit www.gloucesterdogpark.org for information. Tickets, priced at $25, and can also be purchased at The Weathervane on Main Street, Animal Crackers' two locations on Main Street in Gloucester and in Rockport, and Essex Bird and Pet Supply in Essex.
