This isn't the first time Loven has reached out to support a cause close to her heart. Her card, titled Peaceful Polar Bears, is dedicated to her husband Bertil Loven who suffers from type II diabetes, which he controls with diet and exercise. The two met more than 45 years ago when she was moonlighting at WFSB 3 recording commercials. They both resided in Connecticut and Bertil heard her pitch for the YWCA on the radio while he was fishing one day. He turned the radio off and went looking for her.

On their second date he proposed and she said she'd think about it. On their third date, he asked again, she said, "yes," and they eloped.

Today she is designing cards with him as well as friends who suffer from diabetes. The ADA has recognized her work over the past 10 years, selecting several of her original designs for its annual calendar and holiday cards. Three other images have been selected for the 2010 calendar, and her work has been featured in calendars two other years as well. She has submitted work again for the next calendar being planned.
